This summer has been especially hot and dry (well, except for this weekend, when we had Ike influenced rain). While I have commented on the vegetables, the one flower that we plant is sunflowers. We usually do a whole bunch and they effectively block out my neighbors trash pile (LOL). This year the plants were slow to grow and never reached their height potential. However, when they finally bloomed they were awesome!
And sometimes, if you are sitting on the porch, the sunflowers effectively block not only the neighbors trash containers but also the sun!

I love sunflowers, they are just so beautiful. Not real fond of the bees that also love them though
