My space, at last

When we remodeled three years ago, we added on the first floor across the entire back of the house. We also bumped out the back of the house on the second floor as an extension to the upstairs hallway. It is a lovely space 8' x 10' with FOUR windows. It was to be my craft space. MINE. Hah!

Currently it has two chairs, two bookcases, one light/table and we moved the light from the old dining room to that area. Oh, yeah, and it has almost ALL of Zachariah's toys in bins on the bookshelves, floor, chairs, table and often have a tendency to wander away from their designated areas. He also has toys in the living room (under the piano is a great place to park trucks) and a bookcase in the living room. He also has a corner of the dining room where he has a table and chairs, bookcase (which has a stereo, games, puzzles, cards and a variety of bins with crayons, markers, etc.).

In the "original" hall space, we have my grandparent's dresser, chest of drawers, dry-sink and kitchen table. It sounds crowded but it isn't. The dresser and chest of drawers are used for linens and miscellaneous storage. The dry sink is used for towels. The kitchen table is a drop leaf which I use for sewing, stamping and scrapbooking. When I'm not doing something, the leaves get dropped! I also have my Mom's old sewing machine storage table. It is huge, ugly and useless as my sewing machine does not fit in it. The storage area in it is minimal. There is also a metal file cabinet in which I store sewing supplies (my Gingher scissors are under a pile of lace so that nobody uses them).

Anyway, Dave, in his "holy crap its the end of July and school will be starting in less than a month and I haven't done any of the things I planned on doing" mode, has cleaned the upstairs hall.

If I had known what Dave was going to do, I would have taken pictures. The bottomline though is I am getting my space back. He cleaned out the toys yesterday (yes, there was a large garbage bag of stuffed animals), packed up things that are no longer age appropriate for Zachariah and managed to get everything down to a bin full of stuff (keep in mind that Zachariah still has all his stuff downstairs). The bin will be joining the stuff downstairs.

We are moving the two chairs and bookcases into opposite corners, moving the file cabinet into the old area, putting the tv that I got as a gift for being at my job for 35 years on a table in the corner and moving the drop leaf down into the new hallway area.

I will have the two bookcases, etc. for my "stuff." Once I have it organized, I'll take photos of the finished area.

This isn't a good pic but it gives you the idea of the outside size of the space.
