Dyn-o-mite!—Pre-Engineering Students Pre-engineering students wowed judges last week in the "F1 In Schools Ohio Regional Competition” with a balsa wood, carbon dioxide-powered race car. SJA’s Team Dynamite, the competition’s only all-female team, scored high enough to earn the school’s first-ever invitation to the National Race at the Michigan International Speedway on May 11th & 12th, said math teacher Mr. John Lesko. The F1 competition was held in Granville, OH. F1 in Schools, Inc. is a non-profit company "committed to providing an exciting yet challenging educational experience through the magnetic appeal of Formula One. Its main objective is to inspire students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy.” In addition to winning a spot to compete at the National Race, the SJA team placed first in the presentation portion of the competition and third in the engineering portion. "Throughout the competition, our students were enthusiastic and professional. They’re thrilled at the prospect of being able to compete at the national level," said Mr. Lesko. Congratulations to all.
