Lusting after things . . . and is it a sin?

So, if you are lusting after something that is supposed to be good for you, is it a sin?

Okay, here's the thing. Zachariah got a bike last year. My bike is about 13 years old. Sarah's is about 10 years old. Lindsey fell on my bike last year and flattened a tire. When I went to change it, I discovered that the wheel was bent. She then proceeded to also flatten Sarah's tire (she doesn't recall how, really, she was just riding it and had put it away and the next day it was flat, really, really).

But not to worry. Sarah is getting a brand new bike from a neighbor who had bought it for his 13 year old son last year. The kid had the nerve to grow about six inches since last summer. Last year, he was under 5 feet tall. Lindsey is getting a wonderful bike from a friend who has decided that she, too, needed something smaller.

Which leaves me without a bike . . . . and thus the lusting comes in. I started looking at bikes for me. A new bike. One with big fat tires so that I don't feel like I'm flattening them out and I also don't appear to be racing. Something that says "this woman is just out riding her bike and maybe her butt will get smaller in the process." The pink bike above is a Schwinn Roxie Cruiser. Very cool.

The other one is a Schwinn Clear Comfort Bike.
I like them both. A LOT.
And, this is probably the bigger sin than lusting over a bike, neither of my girls will ride either one, especially the pink one . . . of course, according to them, they won't ride with me either, especially if I get a pink helmet and pink shorts and maybe a pink vest, oh, and with either one, I'm putting a basket on the front. After all, our most favorite place to bike to is the Library!

So, what do you think? Is lusting after a bike a sin?

If it's good for you it must be ok. Think of it as being passionate for better health with a relaxing ride to the library where you will exercise your mind. I used to ride competitively and miss the exhilaration of the ride and the satisfaction when finished. Go with the Pink bike and show your bright spirit in everything you do. :)

Cool bikes! I can't wait till mine comes out of the garage for the season, and to "upgrade" to a road bike.

Btw, this is Maria from "In the Middle of Somewhere" I changed my blog a long time ago - I was wondering if you were the person in charge of registration for the Grey's KAL?

When my kids were little we lived on a Navy Base in Puerto Rico. I had a bike (plain old pedal bike-no gears) with a child seat on the front and a child seat on the back (only had two kids then) - not an attractive sight riding around the base!
